Pedals for Kids – Options

After doing my post on kids pedals I had a bit of feedback on pedals that other people used on their kids bikes, which I thought I’d share with you…

Although I’ve bought the Wellgo KC001 I have to say that I do like the look of the Wellgo KC008.

Some people seem to like the stock plastic pedals and are more than happy with the grip.

For older kids a small platform may not be so important. So I’ve also included some larger pedals which kids are happily running on their bikes.

If anyone else has any other pedals worth listing, send me the details and I’ll add them to the list.

  1. I personally like the cheap plastic Wellgo pedals as they cause less shin damage in crashes, but seem to have plenty of grip.

  2. My son (now 13) had Wellgo LU 987s for a couple of years. These appear to be similar/the same as the Islabikes supplied pedals… a decent platform for £11 but not as light or as bling as some of the ones you have listed. He now has excellent Superstar Nanos – £26 in their pre-Christmas sale. Personally I think big and grippy paired with decent shoes is better than trying to pick pedals that won’t hurt shins. A rare gouge from a pin is better than frequent blunt trauma caused by lack of grip.

  3. Just got my set of kc008 pedals and they seem very good. They are almost exactly the same size as the Islabike ones they replaced on my sons Cnoc14. Platform size is actually 70mm x 78mm.

    1. Thanks for the update. That seemed like quick delivery. I must admit the platform size I quoted didn’t seem quite right. I’ll update my details (and perhaps get a pair on order). Thanks

      1. Obviously a fast boat from China. They look great on my son’s Cnoc14 and he claims they are better!
